… and no, I don’t think the fake Venice can possibly be as good as the real deal. In fact, I’d really like to go to Venice one day! It must be so cool to take a gondola and explore the Grand Canal or be on the Piazza San Marco and see St. Mark’s Basilica and St Mark’s Campanile (the bell tower).

Marco and I went to the Venetian in Macau this past May and we saw the Venetian in Las Vegas on a Spring Break trip back in May 2006. Both are owned by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation and look very much alike. The only difference seems to be that while the Grand Canal in Vegas is outside, it is inside in Macau. Given the humidity level in South China and the frequent rain in the summer, I am not surprised.

We had a good time at both locations just walking around and seeing the tower and the beautiful artwork on the walls and ceilings. Unfortunately, our evening at the Macau Venetian was tainted by the food poisoning from our lunch at O Porto Interior (see here) … Let’s just say that we’ll save the delicious Italian ice-cream and drinks for when we make it to the real Venice. And the gondola ride as well! I can only imagine how disappointing a  gondola ride around the fake Grand Canal would be. I’d rather save that for what must be really beautiful views in Venezia (Italian for Venice :) ).
