I love the beach, I really do. I can’t ever get enough of the sand, the water, the sun’s reflection in the sea, the fish, and the smell of the ocean. It just makes me happy to be at a beach. Last year we went to a friend’s wedding in El Paso and used the opportunity to check out one of the best attractions New Mexico has to offer: the White Sands National Monument. Hey, it isn’t exactly the beach, but it’s as close as you’re gonna get around here in West Texas 🙂 So, of course I jumped at the chance to finally see the white sand dunes that cover miles and miles in the middle of nowhere in Southern New Mexico. We parked the car, I immediately took of my shoes and enjoyed walking barefoot in the cold sand. We took tons of pictures (you can see quite a few in my Facebook album), but the one below is one of my favorites. I loved these plants because they look so much like regular flowers, yet they are completely different. There is nothing green about them as you would expect with most plants. Some are kind of golden, some have a silvery shimmer, and I have no idea how they survive in the dessert. Aren’t they pretty though?
