Everybody knows the black cabs that are so typical of London. But have you seen these iconic black cabs seemingly wrapped in a Union Jack flag driving through London’s streets? We saw so many of them when we were sightseeing in London this summer and I thought this Vodafone ad campaign was the coolest ever. And that’s even before I knew that Vodafone had also installed cell phone chargers in the back of these cabs
Pretty convenient, right?! I happily snapped the picture below when we were on a Hop On Hop Off bus tour of the city; don’t judge me – we had very little time and wanted to get an impression of the city
I love that the guy is dressed so traditionally and old-school looking while opening the cab for the passengers of the very non-traditional Union Jack cab.

Thanks
I love the black cabs of London but have to admit cabs being covered in the Union Jack is pretty cool too!

I loved the black ones too! They are so much more spacious in the back than cabs in other countries. My dad is actually thinking about importing one to Germany because he likes them so much
Go figure!
Great shot and a brilliant, eye catching advertising campaign.

Thank you! I was impressed with Vodafone’s creativity as well.
Great picture. The red-coated “footman” against the red, white and blue cab is perfect balance.
We did the bus tour first time we were in London, too. Great way to get an overview of the city.

Thanks! I felt the same way about the bus tour. London is so huge that if you haven’t spent much time there, a bus tour can at least give you an impression of where things are and what is close to each other and really how huge the city is. We enjoyed it even if we only got off at a few stops due to time constraints.
Love the London cabs. I haven’t seen one of the Union Jack cabs, but last time in London I saw one painted in zebra stripes. Also, I think the hop on/hop off buses can be great first time visiting a new city.(In fact, I did a blog post about that a while back
!)

Zebra cabs would be fun – especially since I think zebras are one of the prettiest animals. I must have missed your post on that. I better not read it before writing mine

Cool that they did the flag. When I was there in April, they had some other companies. Brings back lovely memories. Thanks!

I’m glad you enjoyed the pic! Other than the Union Jack, I only saw the regular cabs. I wonder if they maybe only allow a certain number of different ones at a time to keep a certain image.
haha! I generally think the world should be more colourful. It would be so great if each cab had a different pattern/design. Now wouldn’t that be great fun.

I know, right?! But I have the suspicion that they only allow a limited number of cabs to look different from the traditional black in an effort to keep them looking the same. I have no basis for this reasoning other than that it would explain why they don’t have any ads on all of them right now
No judgment from me about the Hop On Hop Off buses… with very little time, they make a great, often relaxing way of seeing a lot! I love London, so I enjoyed your pic.

Thanks! I thought so too about the Hop On Hop Off tours. And we were lucky with the weather, so we could sit outside on the top deck which was really fun
That would be fun to sit on the top deck! On the day that I arrived in Brussels, it was raining, and we were so tired, so we took one of those around the city. It was the best option for us on that day, and it was great that we got to see so much even though it was from the inside of a bus!
You can see just as much from the inside, so that would still be nice! And who wants to get all wet anyways?!
Great shot Sabrina…so British!

I’ve never been there but, your photo of that taxi has me wanting to go for a ride !
Great
I only took the black cabs when I was there because they were the first to stop whenever we were looking, but I think the flag cab would be especially fun.
That’s a fun photo – and quite creative advertising!

Thanks! And I agree about the creativity level of the campaign. Way to go, Vodafone! And I say that completely unbiased since I’ve never actually had a contract with them
This is hilarious. I’d love to ride in one of these cabs!!

Me too
The black ones were the first to stop, so I didn’t actually get to ride in one this time around.
LOVE these! Because of my obsession with London, anything Union Jack is absolutely fantastic in my book!
I did too. I thought they were THE coolest cabs around
I would take the union jack taxi, just because, even if it is a touristy thing to do. Brilliant advertising campaign as well.
